Bridget Lopez Discusses Bold Career Moves for Latina Lawyers
September 10, 2024
In a powerful panel discussion entitled “Seize the Moment: Embracing Bold Career Moves in Law,” Dallas Managing Partner, Bridget Lopez joined colleagues to inspire the next generation of Latina lawyers and law students. Hosted by the Dallas Hispanic Bar Association as part of the Irma C. Ramirez Leadership Program, the event provided a platform for discussing the unique challenges and triumphs faced by women in the legal profession.
The evening began with an inspiring fireside chat featuring Judge Irma Carrillo Ramirez, who made history in December 2023 as the first Latina appointed to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
Judge Ramirez’s groundbreaking appointment set the tone for the discussion, emphasizing the importance of representation and the impact of bold career moves. Her journey is a testament to being relentless and persistent in following your dreams, and her presence inspired attendees to envision their paths in the legal profession.
The American Bar Association reports less than six percent of all attorneys are Hispanic, the number rises to 11 percent for all Texas attorneys.
Ms. Lopez and panelists shared their career trajectories, detailing the obstacles such as navigating the competitive career landscape and overcoming societal expectations. The panel aimed to empower young Latina lawyers to embrace bold moves in their careers, through perseverance and self-confidence.
“This is advice I give to lawyers I mentor in the office, you have to show up, you have to be consistent and you have to do the work,” said Ms. Lopez.
Discussions also highlighted the value of mentorship and community support, encouraging attendees to foster connections within the legal field. Ms. Lopez’s words resonated with the audience, as she encouraged them to take calculated risks, know their worth and to view challenges as opportunities for growth.
Bridget Lopez’s message was clear: with courage and conviction, anything is possible. “I’m so proud of the people I work with, the clients that I have the opportunity to represent, and the impact that we have in the community,” she said.
