Ed Lopez Provides Education, Insight to Assessing Officers
September 20, 2023
Edward Lopez, Management Committee member and Capital Partner in the Dallas office, spoke to tax professionals and attendees of the 2023 Texas Association of Assessing Officers Annual Conference in Grapevine, Texas. Along with other panelists, Mr. Lopez added his insight into the complex and often misunderstood area of Special Inventory Tax (SIT). Specifically, he addressed the importance of maintaining compliance with local dealers, insuring their timely remittance of key documentation and establishing a case before the tribunal in the event the tax remains unpaid and collection efforts are undertaken.
“It is an honor to be asked to speak to people that operate within our area of practice. Whether it’s a client\potential client, an attorney or tax agent, explaining the nuances of tax law ensures that confusion is minimized, questions are answered, all of which leads to greater compliance. The system of taxation works best when everyone understands the purpose and policy of the underlying law. This guidance brings added value to our clients throughout the State of Texas,” said Lopez.
Mr. Lopez serves on TAAO’s Annual Ad Valorem Tax Conference planning committee, along with Linebarger’s Legal Standards and Legislative Committee. He is a frequent speaker at conferences, including Texas Municipal League and Texas Association of School Boards.
