Linebarger Partner Named Texas’ Outstanding Tax Litigation Attorney
August 30, 2024
Linebarger Partner Edward Lopez, Jr. was named the 2024 recipient of the Wayne Peveto Award, which recognizes one exceptional Texas property tax litigation attorney each year specifically for their dedication to teaching and serving Texans in the field of ad valorem taxation.
Mr. Lopez, who also serves on the firm’s management committee, is the first attorney from Linebarger to receive the award in its 14-year history.
“I am honored to be recognized by my peers. I accept this on behalf of everyone in our firm and the clients we have the privilege of representing,” says Mr. Lopez.
The Peveto Award is given by the Annual Legal Seminar on Ad Valorem Taxation conference each year and is named for former Texas State Representative Wayne Peveto, who crafted the law that professionalized and standardized the property tax appraisal process in 1979.
With 30 years of experience in taxation law, Mr. Lopez is highly respected in the field and frequently speaks at state conferences on the ad valorem tax process. Throughout his career, Mr. Lopez has led appellate and litigation responsibilities for critical cases from the trial court through the Supreme Court of Texas. His cases have established several legal principles benefiting taxing authorities throughout Texas.
Mr. Lopez works out of the firm’s Dallas office and serves on the firm’s Legal Standards Committee, along with leadership positions in several community organizations, such as Lifeline Shelter, Grand Prairie Education Foundation, and the Irving Police Foundation. He joined Linebarger in 1994.
